Prime Commonality: Reading, PA

Owens and Crawley create work with the intention of activating a space and relating to the inhabitants of the community. The Prime Commonality sculptures are conceptually based on scientific the deep similarities between humans and chimpanzees. The banding stripes are a visual interpretation of dyed chromosomal banding patterns. Chimpanzees, specifically, have just under 98% shared DNA with humans. These sculptures are a beacon, meant to be a reminder, that we all share an incredible amount in common and that our differences are much more minuscule than we often see them to be.
