Waterways are essential to civilization. The earliest cities and towns sprung up around them and relied on rivers, lakes, and streams for food and transportation.  Rivers sustain life on a macro level. Likewise, on a smaller than microscopic level, the air we breathe more directly sustains life and is something we all share as humans. Based on the volume of your lungs and the size of oxygen molecules, with every breath you take you breathe in at least one oxygen molecule that has been breathed in by every living thing on Earth that is over about 6 years old! (It takes roughly 6 years for the oxygen molecules to get evenly dispersed throughout the atmosphere around the Earth.)  We are all connected on many levels.

On even larger scale, localized water sources are a part of a much larger watershed system that highlights how what we do as humans affects others.
Current is an interpretation of these concepts that seeks to visually represent a current that could be a flowing river with rocks or boulders in the riverbed, or abstracted particles flowing in the air we breathe. The name itself, Current, speaks not only to the physical currents of air and water, but also of time in that we must pay attention to these concepts of connectedness with nature and within humanity right now, in the present.
