Art in Odd Places: Up in Air

Up in Air seeks to engage the public with art mounted in a physically unusual places while at the same time emitting unusual sounds. Twelve motion activated, sound emitting, fiberglass sculptures were attached to light poles, signposts, trash cans, benches, trees, and other objects. Each sculpture emits a tone from internal electronics (a venerable 555 IC) triggered by a motion sensor. Public viewers can sonically interact with the installation by listening and triggering different tone combinations or melodies. Up in Air interacts with the public both visually and aurally. This was a temporary public installation for Art in Odd Places in Downtown Indianapolis, IN, in 2014.
